A few weeks ago, my husband and I took a trip to a local garden centre, because we were on a mission to buy some flowers and brighten up our patio in time for summer. What a difference a bright tablecloth and pretty flowers can make! Even if you’re not looking to buy any flowers or plants, walking around a garden centre and enjoying all the pretty colours is so much fun. There are so many things to look at! Keep reading for some summer gardening inspiration. 🙂 Read more
Summer has officially begun, and so far the weather has been absolutely gorgeous! Is there anything better than sitting outside drinking an iced tea, reading a book, basking in the sun? Summer not only warms my face, but it truly warms my soul. I feel so much more alive and happy when the days are long and bright. 🙂 If you saw this post, you will know this summer is my husband’s last summer of absolute freedom before starting medical school, so we really want to make the most of it! Also, summer screams adventure time to me. I JUST WANT TO BE OUTSIDE ALL THE TIME! 🙂
So if you are in need of some summer inspiration, keep reading and check out my summer bucket list!
Hello! This year has been a crazy one, and I haven’t been able to focus as much time on blogging as I have wanted to. But the weather has been SO nice lately, and it has put me in such a good mood! I spent the afternoon sitting on a patio with one of my good friends who I hadn’t seen since Christmas, and it was glorious! I am so excited to share some summer posts coming up very soon, including my favourite new orange lipstick 🙂 🙂 For today, I wanted to share some good news that has kept me quite preoccupied lately…
Hello! I did not mean to take a month off blogging, but here we are! February was a crazy month. This post will be a “life lately” one, looking back on February, then filling you in on what I’ve been up to in March so far!
The first weekend my husband and I had to go to Vancouver, and of course it was the weekend of snowpocalypse. The highways were crazy, but we ended up feeling lucky a week later, because the next weekend the highways were actually closed because the weather was so bad.
It’s Five Minute Friday time! Five Minute Friday is a weekly linkup hosted by Kate Motaung. Every week, Kate posts a prompt, and participants have five minutes to write about it. I’m really loving this format, not only because it’s a fun writing exercise, but also because I get to share a bit more about myself with you. Last week’s topic was control, and this week’s word is BREATHE.
Today is my first time participating in the Five Minute Friday linkup, started by Lisa Jo Baker and now carried on by Kate Motaung. Every week, Kate posts a prompt, and participants have five minutes to write about it. The point is to write for five minutes and not worry about editing, mistakes or overthinking the topic. Just write! This week’s topic is REFINE.
Today is my 1st blog anniversary! One year ago, I published my first two blog posts: Looking Back on 2015 and January 2016 Goals. I cannot believe it has only been one year since then. I know people usually say time flies, but that feels like a lifetime ago! In honour of my first “bloggiversary,” today I will be sharing 4 reasons I’m happy I started a blog.
One of the biggest thieves of joy in life is comparison. Comparing yourself to others is so dangerous, because there is no winning. If you look at someone else’s life with envy, you are discounting your own life. If you look at someone else with feelings of superiority and arrogance, it’s like you need to put someone else down in order to feel important. Either way, no good can come from comparing yourself to others.
So why do we do it?
If comparison is such a negative habit, why is it so common? The reason I bring up this topic is because it is something I find myself doing sometimes, even though I know it is wrong. Deciding to never compare ourselves to anyone else ever again is simply unrealistic, but I think we can choose to alter our way of thinking whenever possible and make small changes along the way.
Instead of being jealous of someone else’s successes, why not celebrate your own? Instead of looking down on someone else for not being at your level, why not encourage them? No two people are in the exact same place in life. That person you are envious of might be looking back at you wishing they were in your shoes. The only way to overcome the chains of comparison is to find true joy in the life you have. No, not every moment will be a happy one, but instead of feeling sorry for yourself or thinking “if only…” or “I would be happier if…,” know that the difficult moments in life are some of the most important times, because they are preparing you and shaping you for the future.
“You shall not covet your neighbour’s house; you shall not covet your neighbour’s wife, or his male servant, or his female servant, or his ox, or his donkey, or anything that is your neighbour’s.”
Happy New Year! The first blog post I wrote on More than Rubies last January was a looking back on 2015 post. I can’t believe I’ve almost been blogging for one year! 2015 was a rough year with a lot of changes and moves, and I am happy to say that 2016 was much more stable. Living only an hour away from my family this past year and a half has been amazing. It makes my heart so happy that I get to drive down and see them pretty much anytime I want. It is definitely not something I take for granted after being away for so many years. Today, I am ready to say Goodbye 2016, Hello 2017! Read more
