It is officially the first day of summer tomorrow, and the weather has been SO lovely lately! My favourite part of spring and summer is how light it is in the evenings. It is currently 7 p.m., and I am writing this post on my patio in the sunshine. Can’t beat that! This spring I stocked up on a few summer staples that were missing from my wardrobe, including white shorts and a striped tee! To see how I styled these in a recent OOTD, keep reading! 🙂
Shorts and a T-shirt are about as basic as it gets, but these are the first pair of white shorts I’ve owned, and at first I was unsure if I would ever wear them. White, especially pants or shorts, always seemed too daring, you know? So much pressure not to spill something or sit in something LOL. But I guess I was feeling particularly brave the day I picked these up at Old Navy, and I’m so glad I did! I love how they fit and feel, and the colour is so fresh and summery. The length I am wearing is the 3.5 inch, but they also come in 5 inch length if you prefer your shorts to be a bit longer.
When I was in Toronto recently, I had a bit of a shopping spree at Zara, because there is no Zara anywhere near where I live, and I love their clothes. That is where I picked up this striped tee, and I absolutely love it. It is so soft! Sometimes I find I don’t have basic clothing pieces because they’re more of a boring purchase and I’m not drawn to them as much as I am to patterned blouses or flowy dresses, for example. But having basic items like a striped T-shirt are such an important part of a wardrobe. It goes with (almost) everything, and is more interesting than a solid, plain shirt.
This particular shirt goes down in the back, which is great if you’re wearing leggings and want to cover up your bum area, but not so great if you’re wearing shorts and you’re concerned about looking like you’re not wearing any pants…;) I decided I didn’t care and went with it anyway. It’s summer after all, anything goes, right?
What are your must-have summer wardrobe staples?
