Although Christmas is over, winter is very much still here, and with it comes dry air, dry skin and cracked lips. This winter, I have discovered a couple of lip oils, and today I will be sharing them with you. I have a high-end option and a drugstore option: Clarins Lip Comfort Oil vs Essence Prettifying Lip Oil. Keep reading to find out how they compare in terms of packaging, formula and value.
Clarins Lip Comfort Oil: This packaging is so luxe, I adore it. I love the look of the rectangular bottle and the gold lid. The lid has a mirrored effect, so it shows fingerprints quite a bit though. The applicator itself is very large, which makes it difficult to pull out of the bottle because it gets a little stuck inside. At first I wasn’t sure if I would like using this applicator because it’s so much bigger than normal lip glosses, but I actually don’t mind it at all.
Essence Prettifying Lip Oil: This is standard packaging you would expect from a lip gloss. The bottle feels pretty sturdy and good quality for the price though. It is a cylinder with a small applicator that comes out of the bottle easily and is easy to apply.
Clarins Lip Comfort Oil: The formula of this product is thick and goopy, but not sticky. It is a bit tacky, but it is comfortable on the lips and feels very smooth. It smells kind of like vanilla to me, but and has a very sweet taste. (how much lip products do you think we swallow in our lifetime??) In my experience, it only lasts about an hour and a half on the lips, but it does leave your lips feeling smooth long after.
Essence Prettifying Lip Oil: The formula of this product is much thinner than the Clarins one, more consistent with a regular lip gloss. It is also very smooth on the lips and not sticky but a little tacky. This one smells very sweet, kind of like honey, but also kind of like candy. The lasting power of this product is actually pretty amazing. I find the glossiness lasts for a couple hours.
Clarins Comfort Lip Oil: $25 CDN for 7ml –> $3.57/ml
Essence Prettifying Lip Oil: $2.99 for 4ml –> $0.75/ml
I find the Essence lip oil and the Clarins lip oil to be almost the same in terms of the feel on the lips and how they make my lips feel afterward. They both are very smoothing and go on nicely, so I would say go for the Essence one if you are looking for a cheaper alternative, or even if you are looking to dive into the world of lip oils.
Have you tried either of these? Let me know which one is your favourite, or if you are loving any other lip oils!
